    • Newspaper Obituary - February 1, 2005 Watertown Daily Times - Watertown, New York - ROBERT L. DENCE - AIR FORCE VETERAN - Robert L. Dence, 83, Lake Road, died Sunday at Loretto Nursing Home, Oswego. Mr. Dence served in the Air Force and then the Air National Guard at Hancock Field, Syracuse, from 1941 until his retirement in 1976. Born April 16, 1921, in Syracuse, son of Loren and Ethel Place Dence, he graduated from North Syracuse High School in 1940. He married Margaret Caufield in 1977. A previous marriage ended in divorce. He was a life member of Cable Trail Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8534 in Lacona, where he served as quartermaster and chaplain. He was a member of Robert Edwards American Legion Post 358 in Pulaski, a member and past master of Sandy Creek Grange 127, a former chief of Clay Volunteer Fire Department and a life member of Oswego County Fair Association. Surviving besides his wife are a son and his wife, Robert Jr. and Bonnie, Sandy Pond; a daughter and her husband, Desiree and Wayne Unnerstall, Hollister, Mo.; two stepsons, Randy Wilder, Sandy Creek, and Ronald Wilder, Syracuse; a sister, Dorothy Lepinski, Clay; four brothers, Fred, Clay, Harry, Oneida, George, Oswego, and Charles, Florida, 10 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. A brother, Harold, died before him. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Summerville Funeral Home with the Rev. Brian Snyder, pastor of Boylston and Sandy Creek Wesleyan churches, officiating. Spring burial with military honors will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
