- Newspaper Obituary - October 4, 2010 Burlington Free Press - MADELINE MAE SILVA BURLINGTON/ SWANTON - Madeline Mae Silva, 89, passed away peacefully on Sept. 30, 2010 in Starr Farm Nursing Center. Madeline was born at home in St. Albans on Sept. 16, 1921, the daughter of Edward and Alice (Paquette) Bouchard. With her two sisters and ten brothers, Madeline grew up on the family farm in Swanton and attended St. Anne's Academy. Madeline completed her nursing degree at the Tewksbury Hospital School of Nursing in Massachusetts. She enjoyed a long career in nursing at the Veteran's Hospital in White River Junction, at Windsor Hospital and at Kerbs Memorial Hospital in St. Albans, earning numerous awards for outstanding nursing and patient service. Throughout her retirement, Madeline frequently remarked that she wished she were able to return to nursing. Madeline and her husband, Paul, raised their family in Windsor and later relocated to Swanton. Madeline delighted in being surrounded by family and hosting large gatherings. She loved people and was an incredibly kind and gentle person. Even through declining health Madeline always treated others with grace and consideration. Madeline was predeceased by her husband Paul; her son Anthony; and her brothers Isadore, Abraham, Arnold and Roger Bouchard. Madeline is survived by four of her children, Joan Olson of Franklin, Roger and Lynne Silva of Burlington, Theresa and David Scott of Barnet, and Madeline and Robert Dayer of Baudette, Minn. She leaves thirteen grandchildren, Lance, Anthony, Adria, Sara, Jared, Timothy, Daniel, Kati, Lindsey, Ian, Todd, William and Sara; and nine greatgrandchildren, Joshua, Anna, Eric, Dylan, Austin, William, Elian, Harper, and Jacob. She is survived by two sisters, Delma Bouchard and Tina Bouchard; by brothers Lawrence, Clayton, Clifford, Francis, Raymond and Norman Bouchard; and by a great extended family. Madeline leaves her dear friends Theresa Nutter, Lynda Richards and Barbara Hamblett. The family would like to thank all the special people who cared for Madeline with such kindness and compassion, including the staff of the Ethan Allen Residence, the Starr Farm Nursing Center and the VNA Hospice program and also Dr. John Wright and Rosemary Dale, NP. At Madeline's last family gathering, her recent 89th birthday party, she truly enjoyed and deeply appreciated the musical gift shared by the Noyana singers. The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, Oct. 9, 2010, at 10 a.m. from The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, 65 Canada St. Swanton. Father Thomas D. Nadeau will be the celebrant and homilist. The Rite of Committal and Interment will follow at the Silva family lot in St. Mary's Roman Catholic Cemetery. At Madeline's request calling hours will be private. Gifts in her memory may be made to the charity of your choice. Arrangements are under the direction of The Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Ave., Swanton.
