- According to her death certificate on file in the town of Richland, Sarah was 26 when she died, and had Chronic Pancorditis along with Heart Failure.
Newspaper Obituary - Wednesday, April 29, 1896 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - Memorial - Entered into peaceful rest at the home of her parents, Jefferson Avenue, Pulaski. New York, April 26th, 1896, at 12:20 a.m., Sarah S. Bentley. Sarah Seymour Bentley was the second daughter of William H. and Carrie Woods Bentley and was born March 27th, 1870. She leaves three younger sisters, Carrie W., Mary F. and Helen E. Bentley, and one brother, Norman S. Bentley. Most of the first five years of her life were spent in Brooklyn, New York, where her parents then resided. Returning to Pulaski in 1875, she received her education in the schools here until she was 17 years of age, when she moved with her parents to Toronto, Canada. Here she resided five years, three of which she spent at Moulton's Ladles College, at which fine institution of learning she showed excellent scholarship. In 1893 she came back to Pulaski and with her family again took up her residence here, where she spent most of the remainder of her life. She united with the Congregational church, of this village, when 16 years of age, and has been a devoted helper in its works and enterprises since, and for several years before. She was a thorough student of the Bible and got from its inspiring pages the spirit for her works. While she calmly sleeps the influence of her life will live to profit and bless all who knew her. With unselfishness and excited Christian virtues she ministered to many in those things which elevate and enable life. What she failed to accomplish in her life with us she will most certainly accomplish in the change from the circle on earth to the hosts of the redeemed above. Her house was ever in order and in view of the malady which she knew made her earthly slay limited, she lived so that any day might be the last and each day was closed with that attention to every detail that made it possible to lay down the burdens or lie without regret over incomplete work. She was ever ready for the coming of the heavenly bridegroom and never without a well-trimmed and well filled lamp. In her home she was an inspiration to father, mother, sisters and brother; in her church she had an identity for her interesting influences and in her social life she profited her associates by her gentleness and strong individuality. The community is united in profound sympathy for the family from whose circle her personal presence has been removed. The funeral will be held from the house at three o'clock this afternoon.
