Newspaper Obituary - Thursday, January 17, 1991 Watertown Daily Times - Watertown, New York - Jay I. Maltby, 78, Ex-Truck Driver Dies - Jay I. Maltby, 78, County Route 28, town of Richland, former truck driver and milk hauler, died at 8 a.m. Wednesday at the House of the Good Samaritan, Watertown, where he had been a patient since December 8. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Piddock Funeral Home, Adams, with the Rev. Quintin E. Smith, pastor of the Adams Center Seventh Day Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in South Richland Cemetery in the spring. Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Contributions may be made to the Adams Center Seventh Day Baptist Church or the Northern Oswego County Ambulance Service. Surviving are a son, Irving, Pulaski; a daughter, Miss Ann Maltby, Central Square; a brother, the Rev. Leon Maltby, South Daytona Beach, Florida; a sister, Bernice Davis, also of South Daytona Beach, and nieces and nephews. A son, Mark, died in 1954. Three brothers, Calvin, Wilson and Lawrence Maltby, also died previously. He was born May 29, 1912, in the town of Rodman, a son of Norris and Clarissa Saunders Maltby. He attended Adams Center schools and married Ruth L. Clement in 1938, in Arcade. The couple resided in the town of Richland all of their married life. Mr. Maltby was a truck driver for several films in the Southern Jefferson and Northern Oswego county areas and in Syracuse. He was also a self-employed milk hauler for many years. Mrs. Maltby, a former teacher, died in October 1976. She was 64. Mr. Maltby was a member of the Adams Center Seventh Day Baptist Church.
