- Newspaper Obituary - Thursday, January 23, 1879 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - Died - Doane - In this village, January 15th, 1879, Mrs. Adelia Doane, aged 74 years. Mrs. Doane's maiden name was Willis. She was born in Oneida County, New York, and was one of a family of nine children, of which for 30 years or more, she has been the only survivor. She came to Pulaski in 1823. May 1st, 1824, she was married to Josiah Doane at Clinton, Oneida County, by Rev. Asahel S. Norton. Two sons and two daughters were born to them. Three children survive her, Mrs. Catherine Stoddard of Beloit, Wisconsin, Mrs. Barney Peck and Mr. George P. Doane, of this village. She was baptized in the summer of 1827, by Rev. Norman Gitteau. The organization of the Baptist Church occurred on June 3 of the following year, and she became one of the original members. Her connection with it was only severed by death. On the 9th of last June, she was permitted to join with greatest and pleasure in the celebration of the Jubilee year of the church, which she helped to establish and sustain. And now, so soon thereafter, the year of her own earthly release has come. But she was ready for the summons, and her cheerful, developed and beautiful Christian life was crowned by a triumphant faith in her last illness, when she was, to use her own words, "Safe in the arms of Jesus." Such a life and such a death are precious legacy alike to the church and to the friends whose loss is her gain. She rests beside her husband, who preceded her on 26 January, 18_9.
Burial recorded in the dairy of Anna Price Douglass
