- Newspaper Obituary - Thursday, September 14, 1882 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - Sad Accident - An Old Resident Killed by Falling While on the Steamer Hurd - The sad news of the death of Horace A. Twitchell, brother of A. L. Twitchell of Richland town, was brought to this village last week. The deceased, a man about 62 years of age, is well known in this town, he having for many years been a resident here. At the time of his death, which occurred August 26, he was employed as wheelman on the steamer J. L. Hurd, which plies between Chicago and Lake Superior, commanded by Capt. Hiram Page of Port Ontario. It appears from all we can learn that the deceased while standing near the hatchway, accidentally fell down into the lower hold, fracturing his skull and breaking three ribs. He was taken up unconscious, in which state he remained until his death.
