    • Dorothy Thelma Ballou or "Sal" as she was known by all, was for many years a private midwife, bringing into the world many children--including some of her Neice and nephews. Like Aunt Nancy McCaw Callaghan and other cousins, her skill was appreciated by those whom she helped in delivery.
      Following their marriage at the New York State Police Station in Pulaski, Hank and Sal moved to Camden with Hank's parents on Railroad St. Hank obtained a position with Camden Wire, then later with Harden Furniture about 1928. The first 4 children were born in Camden, at the home on Railroad Street.
      Hank and Sal moved to McConnellsville, and later into Redfield 1st near Yvonne, then out on the Pulaski Rd. While in Redfield Hank obtained a position with Solvey Process and the family soon moved to Jack's Reef in Onondaga County. They lived there, and later in Memphis until Sal's death in 1964. Hank was with Solvey Process for 19 years.
      Following Sal's death Hank lived variously throughout the Syracuse area. In the early 1980s he entered James Square in Syracuse while his health declined. In the mid 80s he moved to a Nursing home in Weedsport where he was a bit happier in "the country". Daughter Doris lived near by, as did son Larry who looked after his affairs. In 1992 Hank passed away peacefully in his sleep. He is buried beside his beloved "Sal" at Warner's Cemetery in Onondaga County, NY.
