    • Newspaper Obituary - Monday, April 5, 1971 Syracuse Post Standard - Syracuse, New York - Ellis A. Backus Dies at Hospital - Parish - Ellis Arthur Backus, 83, of Montgomery Street, Parish, died Sunday at St. Joseph's Hospital, Syracuse, following a short illness. Born in Greece, he had resided in Parish for 38 years. He was a retired employe of Carrier Corporation. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Grace Cowen Backus; two sons, Victor of Hialeah, Fla., and Arthur Backus of Mexico; and several grandchildren. Services will be conducted at the Harter Funeral Home at the convienance of the family. Burial will be in Carley Mills Cemetery. Friends may call 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Contributions may be made to a favorite charity.
