Newspaper Obituary - Wednesday, August 18, 1897 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - Died - July 31, 1897, of blood poisoning, Mrs. Grace McChesney, aged 55 years and 5 months. The subject of this sketch was the daughter of the late David Ehle, of Sandy Creek. She resided in her native town until her marriage with Ralph McChesney, of Selkirk, who was drowned about fifteen years ago while coming from Sandy Pond to Selkirk in a sail boat. Mrs. McChesney's life has been one of suffering and trial, for owing to a spinal difficulty she was unable to walk for more than twenty years and has propelled herself about the house in a wheel chair, but she was always of a cheerful disposition and always made the best of everything. She was totally blind in her left eye, but when anyone spoke of it she would say, "Well, I can see pretty well with the other one." She was never known to complain of her hardships and was more liberal and active in good works than many are who have the use of all their faculties. She had been a member of the Methodist Church for many years and lived in the hope of meeting in heaven the friends gone before. During her last sickness of fourteen weeks, she was hopeful and courageous, while ready to die if it was God's will, yet looking forward to recovery until the last. She leaves one son, Alton, who is a sailor on the lakes and was unable to be present at the funeral. He deeply feels the loss of his mother and will always remember her instructions and admonitions. He has the sympathy of all his friends in this time of son-ow. The funeral was well attended, Rev. J. Bailey, of Pulaski, conducting the services. Burial at Sandy Creek.
