- Died in an accident while cutting trees. This was reported in the Pulaski Advocate and the Oswego Palladium.
"Dreadful Accident--It is our painful duty to record the death of a young man, John, son of Reuben Peck, residing about two miles east of this village, under circumstances the most appalling and heart rendering. He was chopping in the woods with several other individuals--a tree having lodged in the branches of another tree, they commenced cutting the adjoining ones, when a large limb fell and struck him on the top of his head, penetrating into his brains and driving bones out on each side of his head. He survived but a few hours----Verily, in the midst of life is death"h---Pulaski Advocate
