    • Newark - Freida Mason Akins, 86 died Friday, December 13, 2002 at Via Health Of Wayne-Newark Campus.

      Family and friends may call Monday (Dec. 16) from 3 to 6 at the Norman L. Waterman Funeral Home, Inc., 124 West Miller Street, Newark. Private funeral service with Rev. Gerald Harris officiating. Burial at Rose Cemetery in the spring.

      In memory of Mrs. Akins, please make contributions to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 3049, Syracuse, NY 13220.

      Mrs. Akins was born the daughter of George and Elnora Richardson Mason on February 11, 1916 in Altmar, New York. She married Emmry Akins on February 24, 1934. Mrs. Akins retired from the Finger Lakes DDSO in 1978 where she worked as a supervisor. She loved to visit her children and grandchildren and was "always on the go"

      Mrs. Akins will be missed by her sons George Aikins of Canandaigua, Garry (Judy) and Thomas (Wanda) Akins both of N. Rose; daughters Phylis Akins of Minnesota and Lynda (Ken) Blake of Newark; 27 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren and 1 great-great granddaughter; step-sisters Arreta (Floyd) Ware of Parish and Gloria "Bunny" Young of Florida; several nieces and nephews.

      Mrs. Akins was predeceased by her husband Emmry on Jan. 20, 1980; daughters Carolyn in April of 1996 and Elaine in Nov. of 2001; daughter-in-law Kim Aikins in August of 2001 and one great grandson.
