- Obituary for WILLIAM MESSERSCHMIDT - William W. Messerschmidt, age 81, Johnson City, TN, died Monday, December 5, 2005, at his residence. Born in Crailsheim, Germany, he lived until recently in Hatboro, PA. He was the son of the late William J. and Babette Weller Messerschmidt. Mr. Messerschmidt was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Abington, PA. He was a most kind and giving person, always thinking of his family and friends. Mr. Messerschmidt worked for 43 years at Reading Railroad Co. in Philadelphia, having retired in 1986. He served in the Pennsylvania State Guard. He was a Phillies baseball fanatic and watched or attended all of the games that he could. He enjoyed bowling, cooking and entertaining. His proudest accomplishment in life was raising his family, and throughout life he put this before all other goals. Mr. Messerschmidt was a member of Solomon's Lodge #3, F&AM, Philadelphia, PA. Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, William H. Messerschmidt, M.D. and his wife Bonnie of Piney Flats, TN, and Robert G. Messerschmidt of Corrales, NM; a sister, Betty McIntire of Rotonda, FL; two brothers, Charles Messerschmidt of Horsham, PA, and George Messerschmidt of Orangeville, PA; two grandchildren, William L. Messerschmidt and Claire G. Messerschmidt both of Piney Flats, TN; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death on March 9, 1989, by his wife Marilyn Gail Young Messerschmidt, whom he married on October 24, 1954, and by a brother, Erick Messerschmidt. The funeral service for Mr. William W. Messerschmidt will be conducted at 10:00 AM, Saturday, December 10 at Craft Givnish Funeral Home, Abington, PA, with Rev. Michael Tavella officiating. The family will receive friends from 7:00 - 9:00 PM, Friday, December 9 and from 9:00 - 10:00 AM, Saturday, December 10. The graveside and committal service will follow in George Washington Memorial Park, Plymouth Meeting, PA. Masonic rites will be bestowed by Solomon's Lodge #3, F&AM, Philadelphia, PA.
