Newspaper Obituary - Thursday, December 1, 1887 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - Died - At his home in Black River, Jefferson County, New York, November 2_, at 4 o'clock p.m., after a brief illness of pneumonia, Melvin Mellen, aged _1 years. Mr. Mellen was born in Richland, July 1_, 18_, and lived until about seventeen years of age, when he moved to Black River, where, with his family, he remained until his death. In his early life he united with the Baptist church of Pulaski, and was known throughout his whole life as a man of honesty, integrity and uprightness of purpose. His family consist of his wife, two sons living in Black River, one of whom is married, and three daughters living in the far West, two being married. He was a loving husband, a kind father and a good neighbor, and leaves a vast number of friends, both in black river and Richland, to mourn his death. He was brought to Richland for interment.
