- January 8, 1896 ~ Cora M. Betts, age 37 years, 3 months, Married, born in New York, Resident of Richland Township for 33 years, Daughter of Sherman and Sarah Clark, died in Pulaski of heart failure and enysepilus, duration of 20 days.
Newspaper Obituary - Wednesday, January 15, 1896 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - Died - There was a very large attendance of the most respectable people of our village as well as of friends from Oswego and Syracuse at the funeral of the late Mrs. Cora Marie Betts, beloved wife of Doctor George W. Betts, one of our most esteemed physicians, at his residence on Saturday last, and the suddenness of her departure from _blooming health in addition to the doctor and her having just got settled in their beautiful home, affected every heart giving touching emphasis to the words in the burial service. "In the midst of life we are in death; of whom may we seek for succour but of thee, O Lord." Mrs. Betts was born in Oswego village on the 5th of October, 1858, and was the eldest daughter of the late Sherman Clark Esq., and of his beloved wife, Mrs. Sarah Marie Clark, who with three daughters, Mrs. Fred Sharp, Miss Anna and Miss Jessie Clark are thus suddenly bereaved. Mrs. Rett was a faithful and beloved member of St. James's church from a child, having been baptized into Christ when less than nine years of age, by the Rev. M. B. Benton, confirmed by Bishop Huntington at the age of fifteen, and regular in her attendants on the services of the church, and that the holy Communion up to the end of her earthly pilgrimage, and of a married life of more than usual happiness and prosperity of almost fifteen years. Her piety was of a modest correlation disposing her to say little of herself yet deep and all-pervading has appeared by her devotion to her husband and friends. A cheerfulness which caused all our young people to love her, and in her words to her mother in her last illness, "I am not afraid to die," while she kept repeating over and over again the words of the everlasting gospel as contained in the services of the Episcopal Church. By her particular instructions the officiating Minister, Rev. Robert Paul, confined himself wholly to the burial service as it is contained in the Prayer Book of the Episcopal Church.
