- Newspaper Obituary - Thursday, August 2, 1883 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York -and Mrs. Clarissa A. Gray, aged 63 years, wife of William H. Gray, one of the oldest and most esteemed citizens of Pulaski, and daughter of Henry Averill, formally a deacon of the Baptist Church in this village, died at her residence on Lake street, after a long and painful illness, on Friday evening, July 27. Mrs. Gray was an invalid, confined, for the most part to her room for thirty years, and the great fire, which swept away the home and business of her husband, followed about six months after the death of her eldest daughter, Mrs. Crippen, was a shock to her nervous system which it was not expected by those who knew her best she could long survive. She was a patient sufferer, a faithful wife, and affectionate mother, and a kindhearted friend. Many will miss her who loved to visit her in her chamber of sickness, for she always welcomed them, and was naturally generous, sympathizing, and constant is the soun. She's gone from our sight. We shall see her no more; no more forever on her bed of weariness and pain; and this is the consolation of all who loved her, that she is gone to her Father, the Everlasting Father of us all, who reigns supreme over all worlds, the God of Love. Her funeral, on Sunday last, was attended by a large number of the most respectable citizens of Pulaski, when the beautiful and impressive service of the Episcopal Church was performed by Rev. Robert Paul at the house and the grave. Requiescat in pace. To each lonely heart, what a comfort it is this, when dear ones are gone forever; to know that unseen, there are worlds of bliss, where tears of sorrow flow, never. Where smitten hearts are forever unknown, where "mansions" of Love are glorious; reflecting the light of Immanuel's throne, and Saints are forever victorious! Such joy does the Gospel of Jesus give, to the lonely and broken hearted, sure and certain hope that the good show live forever with their dear departed!
