Newspaper Obituary - Thursday, June 28, 1945 Mexico Independent - Mexico, New York - Lewis M. Geer Dies In Fernwood - Lewis M. Geer, 67, well known business man and retired railroad man, died Monday evening, June 18, at his home in Fernwood. He had been in poor health for some time. He was born in Piccairn, February 27, 1878, the son of Francis M. and Lillian C. Geer, and married in April 1901, Belle Groff of Mexico, who died in 1935. He married Bertha Marcussen in 1936. Mr. Geer entered railroad service in Mexico in September, 1898, and retired in September, 1943, after 45 years of continuous service. He was agent at Lycoming, Mexico, Daysville, Fernwood, and Maple View. His early affiliations included membership in the Mexico firemen, and I.O.O.F., and later he joined Pulaski Lodge 415, F & AM, Pulaski chapter 279, I.O.O.F., the South Richland grange of Fernwood and the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen. He attended the Baptist church in Fernwood and was a trustee of the South Richland cemetery, known as Willis cemetery. He also was town constable and school director and was one of the original Pulaski Central School board members. Surviving are his wife; one son, Max Geer of Fernwood; one daughter, Mrs. John Cooper; one granddaughter, Edna Belle Geer, all of Fernwood; a brother, Ray W. Geer, station agent at Pulaski; and two sisters, Mrs. Thomas Smith, Maple View and Mrs. Fred Goodsell, Fernwood, and several nieces and nephews. Services were held at his home at 2 p.m. Thursday by the Rev. David Davis of Fernwood Baptist church and burial was in Willis cemetery.
