Newspaper Obituary - Wednesday, April 3, 1907 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - Fernwood - Again is our village and morning over the deaths of C. R. Erskine, and his sister, Miss Luanna. Mr. Erskine had been feeble all winter and on March 27, he heard the Master's voice saying, "It is enough, how faithful he has been in all of his earthly business, come, enter into the Joys which all of thy Christian days you have been striving for." Just a little weaker and a shorter breath and he was in eternity. All unmindful of what had happened, the loving sister, who was also very ill, and at times her mind was not her own, asked if her brother had yet returned, saying he had been absent all day, and quietly as her life had always been with no opposition to God's will, she just reached out her hand and lovingly did her Savior guide her trembling footsteps through the deep, dark uncertainty into the light of perfect day. They were born in New Hampshire and came here with their parents when very young and knew what it was to work and toil, and it always lived together. They had not lived selfishly, but lived one for the other. A life, which had witnessed many changes here, was Miss Erskine for her years were 87, and Mr. Erskine, although the more feeble of the two, was 78. Mr. Erskine was twice married, once in his early years he married Miss Harriet Fancher, who died in 1902. In 1903, he remarried Mrs. Emma Weaver, a sister of his first wife. Not alone will the only brother and sister born and miss them, but the whole community will mourn the loss of him who was a loyal brother, husband, neighbor and friend. The double services were held at the church April 1, Rev. F. M. Harvey and Rev. W. H. Hall conducted the services. A quartet, L. M. Perry, B. Burdick, Mrs. L. M. Perry and Mrs. M. Barnard sang "Asleep in Jesus," "How Blest the Righteous when He Dies" and "Abide with Me." Interment was made in Willis Cemetery. A wife, one brother, George Erskine, of Fargo, and a sister, Mrs. Emeline Stowell, of Wisconsin, survive them. Friends from Brooklyn, Pulaski, Mexico and Albion were present. News was received from a sister, Mrs. Erastus Holdridge, of Wisconsin, who died March 23, three of one family in less than a week.
