- Newspaper Obituary - January 8, 2007 Watertown Daily Times - The funeral for Kenneth N. Thomas, 80, County Route 62, Watertown, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Johnson Funeral Home, Dexter, with the Rev. Helen J. Hadley, pastor of Dexter United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Sulphur Springs Cemetery. Mr. Thomas died Saturday afternoon at Samaritan Keep Home. Calling hours will be from noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Mr. Thomas was a self-employed truck driver and also was a welder for Hall Ski-Lift Inc., SMI Industries USA and Snowblast-Sicard, retiring in 1990. Born March 3, 1926, in Russell, son of Harold and Katherine Walker Thomas, he attended school at Camps Mills and Sackets Harbor. He entered the Navy in February 1944, serving aboard the USS Yosemite and USS Samaritan in the Asiatic-Pacific theater and the Philippines. He was discharged in 1946 as a seaman first class. He married Gladys I. Towsley on Feb. 28, 1947, in Watertown. The couple lived in their home on County Route 62 all of their married lives. Mr. Thomas was a member of Harold W. Townsend American Legion Post 1757, Sackets Harbor, and Barben-Jones Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1400. Surviving besides wife are three daughters and their husbands, Terry L. and Theodore Gonseth and Nancy S. and Frank Tubolino, all of Sackets Harbor, and Vicky L. Stokes, Watertown; two sons, David B., Cape Vincent, and Harold F. "Hal," Casselberry, Fla.; a granddaughter, Stacy M. Thomas, Watertown, whom she and her husband raised; a brother, Hazen, Great Bend; nine other grandchildren; five great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. A brother, Fay, and a sister, Hilda Snyder, died before him. Donations may be made to Sackets Harbor Fire Department 2.
