Cox, Verner J., age 92, recently of Benton, Louisiana, died peacefully of complications related to a recent fall on April 21, 2002 at Summit Hospital of Northwest Louisiana, Bossier City. He was born September 18, 1909 in Hannibal, New York to Fred E. and Emily Cox. Vern received a teacher's certification from Oswego State Teachers College and received a M.A. in School Administration from Columbia University. Vern worked for nearly forty years in the Nyack, New York school system as a teacher, administrator, and school principal, retiring in the late 1960's. He married Alice Barbour in 1930, Constance Fehling in 1960, and Frances Turner in 1964. Vern and Fran moved to Sunrise, Florida in 1970. While living in Florida, Vern and Fran pursued new vocations, working for the Pompano Beach Duplicate Bridge Club for many years. In 2001, he relocated to Louisiana to reside with family, Dr. James and Mrs. Susan Dossey (granddaughter) and great-granddaughter, Mary. Vern is further survived by seven other grandchildren, Kathryn D'Andrea (Alabama), Steven Polivka (Arkansas), David Polivka (Virginia), Carol Hay (Wisconsin), Bruce Hicklin (Wisconsin), Jeff Hicklin, (Illinois), and Sara Hicklin (Wisconsin), and great-grandchildren. Vern is also survived by his stepchildren from his marriage to Fran, Ronald (Joann) Turner of Delray Beach, Robert (Rosemary) Turner of Delray Beach, their grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and his stepdaughter, Pamela Turner (New Jersey). Vern was preceded in death by his wives, Alice (1957) and Frances (1998), and his two daughters, Janet (1998) and Barbara (2001). Memorial services in Louisiana and in New York to be announced at a later date.
