- Newspaper Obituary - Thursday, February 16, 1893 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - Died - in Greeley, Colorado, February 8, 1883, of heart disease, John J. Stevens, age 61 years. Deceased was born in Pulaski, New York. He enlisted in the union Anny from this place as a private, but later on was promoted to first lieutenancy. In 1871 he was married on North street, in this village, to Miss Lydia Forbes, a half sister of Mrs. D. B. Meacham. He served one term as clerk of Oswego County, having been elected in 18_. Later on he removed west to obtain relief from the asthma. For a number of years he was a stockholder in the Greeley Tribune. His wife and only child are both dead, and his only relatives surviving him are Mrs. McDonald, of Greeley; an adopted daughter, Mrs. George M. Hess, of Toronto, Ontario, and Mr. Stevens, of Sandy Creek.
