Newspaper Obituary - Friday, July 28, 2000 Watertown Daily Times - Watertown, New York - Robert F. LaPoint Colonel, Campground Owner - Ret. Lt. Col. Robert F. LaPoint, 83, of 110 Patrick Drive, died Wednesday at Upstate Medical University, Syracuse. Col. LaPoint retired from the Army at the rank of lieutenant colonel in 1960 after 20 years of service. He had served in the Caribbean theater and the European theater, where he saw duty in the Rhineland, Central European and Ardennes-Alsace campaigns during World War II. In 1960, he received the Army Commendation Medal for Distinguished Service. Since 1959, he had owned the Chedmardo Campground, town of Richland, and was former president of the Campground Owners of New York State. Born May 9, 1917, in Manlius, son of Edward and Louise Battle LaPoint, he was a 1935 graduate of Manlius High School. He married Florence I. Partrick on March 30, 1943. Mrs. LaPoint died June 9, 1986. He was a member of Robert Edwards American Legion Post 358, Pulaski Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7289, Masonic Lodge 415, Media Temple Shrine, Watertown, and the Richland Zoning Board of Appeals. He was the former Civil Defense director for the town of Richland. Survivi,lig are a daughter, Mary Lou LaPoint, Tarpon Springs, Florida; two sons, Charles D. and Donald J., both of Pulaski; a sister, Elizabeth Hallett, Detroit, Michigan; a brother, Francis E., Manlius, and three grandchildren. A son, Edward R., died in 1973. The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Foster-Hax Funeral Home with the Rev. Dorothy Emblidge officiating. Burial will be in Daysville Cemetery. Calling hours are from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
