- Newspaper Obituary - May 12, 1971 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - Heart Attack Fatal To Robert Gareau - Robert J. Gareau, 51 of Rt. 11 died unexpectedly at his home Wednesday, May 5 after suffering a heart attack. He had been under care for a heart condition for several years. He was born April 4, 1920 at Malone, a son of Edward J. and Amelia LaPlante Gareau. He attended school in Malone and in 1941 entered the U.S. Army. Following his discharge in 1945 he moved to Fulton; where on January 10, 1948 was married to Norma Van Alstyne. They resided in Fulton until moving to Pulaski 1954. He was employed by Muench-Kreuze Candle Co. until his retirement. He was a member of Post 7289 VFW of Pulaski and was an ardent sportsman. Surviving are his wife, Norma Gareau; a daughter, Mrs. Charles (Delores) Gadway Jr of Altmar, a son Carl Gareau at home; a granddaughter; three brothers, Paul and Edward of Malone and Francis of Fulton; eight sisters, Mrs. Harry (Permila) Hungerford, Mrs. Frances (Evelyn) Brugeon, Mrs. Cleophus (Leona) Stone, Mrs. William (Pauline) Gregario, Mrs. Harold (Blanche) Learned, Mrs. Louis (Clarris) Sweet, all of Malone; Mrs. Byron (Aldona) Cable of Fulton, and Mrs. Daniel (Irma) Reindeau of Ft. Covington, several cousins, nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Saturday, May 8 at the Taylor-Vida Funeral Home with the Rev. Richard Clay, rector of St. James Episcopal Church officiating. Burial was in Pulaski Cemetery with full military honors.
