- Brantley Deaton, age 89, resident of Pulaski since 1976, passed away Wednesday at his daughter’s home. Brantley was born August 6, 1933, in Wolf Coal, KY, the son of Edward and Mary Bush Deaton. He graduated from Fairborn High School in Ohio in 1951 and served in the United States Navy from 1953 until 1957 aboard the USS Leyte, an aircraft carrier. He received his Bachelor Degree in Electrical Engineering from Ohio University. His career included his work for General Electric on government defense contracts, including the Gemini Program, which put man into space. Brantley owned and operated Deaton’s Ace Hardware since 1980 and Deaton’s Agway since 2004. He was a member of the Robert Edwards American Legion Post #358 in Pulaski, the Gideons, Kiwanis Club, and the Bethel Community Center, as well as many others. He also coached Little League and was a Boy Scout Leader. Brantley was a philanthropist and believed deeply in giving back to his community through charities on a local and national level.
Surviving are his children, Christa (Ron) Phillips of Pulaski, Karen (Jeffrey) Santiago of Freeport, FL, Sandra (Ken) Kirkland of Marianna, FL, Mary Beth Svatek of Daphne, AL, Charles Deaton of Pulaski, and B. Michael (Karen) Deaton of Syracuse, step-children, Robert (Karen) Seigart of Dewitt, William (Denise) Seigart of East Stroudsburg, PA, Carol May of Juneau, AK, Cheryl (James) Gonzalez of Syracuse, NY and Bradenton, FL, George (Sheree) Roykouff of Fenton, MI, and Karen (Joe) Thomas of Stoughton, MA, his sister, Dorothy Fenton, and four brothers, Ion, Frank, Charles, and Woodrow Deaton. He is also survived by 18 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and Harriette’s four grandchildren and her eight great-grandchildren. Brantley was predeceased by his infant daughter, Starr, in 1956 and his brother Alva Deaton, and one son-in-law, John Svatek. He is also predeceased by his wife of 17 years and mother of his seven children, Dorothy Lovejoy, his wife of 27 years, Sally Laus, and his wife of 14 years, Harriette Buck-Roukouff.
Funeral services will be held at 1 PM on Monday, December 19th at the Pulaski Wesleyan Church, 4591 US Route 11, in Pulaski with a burial in South Richland Cemetery in Fernwood in the Spring. Calling hours will be held from 1 to 4 PM Sunday at the Foster-Hax Funeral Home, 52 Park Street, Pulaski, NY 13142.
