Newspaper Obituary - Wednesday, February 17, 1937 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - Albion Cross Roads - Our community was greatly shocked last week by the sudden deaths of two of its oldest residents. Deforest A. Butterworth, who passed away at midnight, Friday, February 12 and Ida Smith Butterworth, his wife, who passed away at midnight Wednesday, February 10. Both Mr. and Mrs. Butterworth were ill only a few days and confined to their bed only since Tuesday night. Knowing that the elderly couple had quite a cold, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Butterworth, near neighbors, went to their home Tuesday night and found them both in a serious condition, although both were up and continuing their daily work. They were assisted to bed and Dr. A. B. Thompson of Pulaski was summoned. Their condition grew steadily worse until death claimed Mrs. Butterworth Wednesday night at the age of 75 years and again Friday night death entered the home and took Mr. Butterworth at the age of 86. Mrs. Ida Butterworth was born April 21, 1861 in Westchester County. In 1884 she was married and for fifty-two years she lived in the community. She leaves to mourn her passing three sons, Percy, Carl and Isaac and a half-sister, Mrs. Sophie Clement of the Hicks district. Mr. Butterworth, a life- long resident of this town spent all but a few years of his earlier life on the place where he passed away. He is survived by his three sons and a half-sister, Mrs. Frank Ewart of Syracuse. A host of friends and neighbors are also left to mourn the loss of Mr. and Mrs. Butterworth.
