- Mr. Roy J. (Toot) Paro died Saturday (Feb. 25, 1978) in Potsdam Hospital where he had been a patient for 12 days. He had been in failing health for the past several years.
Funeral services for Mr. Paro, were held Tuesday, Feb 28, 1978 at 11 am from the O'Leary Funeral Home with the Rev. Curtis S. Denney, rector of the Grace Episcopal Church officiating. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery in the spring.
Surviving are his wife, Alice; four daughters; a son, nine grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren; a brother, a sister, and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Paro was born in Canton, March 24, 1897, the son of Frederick and Alban Edwards Paro. He was educated in Canton Schools. He served with the U.S. Army during WWI.
Mr. Paro was married to Alice Sharpstene in 1917 in a ceremony performed in Canton. The couple lived in Canton and then moved to Pyrites where they lived for several years. During that time, Mr. Paro was employed at the International Paper Company of America, Pyrites, as a railroad engineer.
When that company went out of business, Mr. Paro worked for D.J. Woods contractors and Builders of Canton as a carpenter. Following that job, Mr. Paro worked as a private contractor. He was a member of the Grace Episcopal Church and was a past member of the VFW. Donations may be made in Mr. Paro's memory to the Canton Rescue Squad.
