Newspaper Obituary - Thursday, November 11, 1954 Mexico Independent - Mexico, New York - Mrs. T. K. Smith Dies Suddenly In Hospital - Mrs. Vida Geer Smith, wife of Thomas K. Smith of Maple View, passed away at 10 a.m. Monday at Crouse-Irving hospital, Syracuse after a week's illness. She was born October 25, 1891 at Pitcarin, St. Lawrence County, a daughter of Francis and Lillian Price Geer. Moving to Oswego county, she spent her girlhood in Fernwood and attended Pulaski Academy. She was married October 5, 1916 at Fernwood and has since lived in Maple View. Mrs. Smith was a member of the Mexico Methodist church and of the W. S.C.S. of that church, the Clara DeLong unit, the Live Wire Class of which her husband is the president; vice chairman of the local WUTU; president of the Dorcas Club and a member of the Day unit of the Home Bureau. She had corresponded for the Mexico Independent for the past twenty years as well as for other papers. A very active church worker, she will be greatly missed. Surviving are her husband; one son, Donald Smith of Syracuse; one daughter, Mrs. Herbert (Doris) Cleveland of Maple View; seven grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Fred Goodsell of Fernwood; one brother, Ray Geer of Pulaski. Prayer service will be conducted from her late home at two o'clock Thursday afternoon and at two-thirty funeral services will be held at the Mexico Methodist church, with the Rev. Clyde V. Sparling, pastor of the church officiating. Interment will be in the Willis cemetery.
