- MORRISVILLE - A Morrisville man was killed in a two-car motor vehicle accident on Swamp Road in the town of Smithfield on Thursday at approximately 6:45 a.m.
Morrisville-based state police said Carlton K. Thurston, 79, 206A North Butler Road, was killed after the 1988 Toyota Corolla he was driving spun out of control, crossed into the opposite lane of traffic, and was struck by a northbound 1999 Dodge van driven by Lawrence Brooks, 68, of Hubbardsville.
Brooks and an unidentified passenger in his vehicle suffered minor injuries in the accident and were treated and released at Hamilton Hospital.
Thurston was extricated from his vehicle by members of the Morrisville and Smithfield fire departments with the jaws of life, but was pronounced dead at the scene.
The cause of the accident is attributed to unsafe speed and poor road and weather conditions.
Police said no charges are pending.
