    • James, who was known as "Red" was a rural mail carrier. He was a Veteran of World War II and was one of the first from Friendship to enlist in the Korean War. He was also a member of the Friendship Fire Co., Friendship American Legion, and the Allegany County 40 'n' 8. In June 1966 James and his family were traveling in there station wagon on a narrow country road in Allegany County and collided head-on with a 26 year old drunk driver. James, his wife, and two of their children died in the crash, and the other children were seriously injured.
