Earl Stanton Clemens - March 12, 1895 - December 20, 1977. Military Service: Veteran of the United States Navy during World War I; Enlisted May 10, 1917 at Syracuse, New York with rank of Hospital Apprentice Second Class, and was sent to the training station at Newport, Rhode Island. On September 11, 1917 Earl received rank of Hospital Apprentice First Class, and on November 8, 1917, with rank of Pharmacist Mate Third Class. Earl served aboard U.S.S. Illinois, Hospital Corps, and was discharged on September 18, 1919 with rank of Pharmacist’s Mate First Class. Son of George Eveard and Ada Coral Thomas Clemens. Husband of Ella Vivian Ballard Clemens. Married September 19, 1920 at Sandy Creek, New York.
Newspaper Obituary - Wednesday, December 28, 1977 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - Earl C. Clemens, retired PACS treasurer, dies - Earl C. Clemens, 82, of 7402 Lincoln Avenue, retired manager of Lincoln First Bank in Pulaski, was pronounced dead on arrival last Tuesday, December 20, at the House of the Good Samaritan, Watertown. The funeral was held Friday at the Foster-Hax Funeral Home, with Rev. Dolen Morris, pastor of the Park United Methodist Church, officiating. Spring burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Orwell. Memorial donations may be made to the Northern Oswego County Ambulance. He is survived by two sons, Earl B., Lansdale, Pennsylvania, and Robert B., Pulaski; a daughter, Mrs. William (Patricia) Rotunno, Warren, Pennsylvania; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was born in Redfield, March 12, 1895, son of George and Ada Thomas Clemens. He was graduated from Pulaski High School and from Cornell University's agricultural banking program. Mr. Clemens served in the Navy during World War I. Worked at the People’s National Bank of Pulaski until it closed, and was a federal bank examiner from 1930 to 1934, became bank manager in 1949 and retired in 1960. He married Ella V. Ballard September 19, 1920. She died December 30, 1969. He was a charter member of the Robert Edwards American Legion Post 358, was passed district deputy and grand master of the IOOF, former treasurer of the Pulaski Rod and Gun Club, member of the Pulaski Service Club, and life member of the Mad River Club. Mr. Clemens retired this summer as treasurer of Pulaski Academy and Central School, a position he had held for 31 years.
