- Newspaper Obituary - Thursday, February 24, 1887 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - Died in Gibson, Michigan, January 28, 1886, Harvey Doane, aged 73 years. Mr. Doane formerly lived in this town, where his brother, Ira Doane, still lives. His wife, whose maiden name was Basima McChesney, is a sister of Mrs. Lucius Jones, whose husband is a well-known merchant in this village. For a number of years and up to the time of his death, the deceased had been a postmaster at Gibson. He was also engaged in fruit farming. Mr. Doane was a Wesleyan Methodist and a devout man.
Harvey and his first wife operated a Hotel in Port Ontario for many years. In the late 1860s he moved west to Allegan County, Michigan where he and his second wife lived until after 1880.
Isaac Douglass reports that Harvey died sometime before February 5, 1887 in his diary.
