Newspaper Obituary - February 1914 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - Our community is saddened by the death of one of it's oldest, and best known and most highly respected inhabitants, John Calkins, who died at his home here on February 13th, after an illness of several weeks, aged seventy-eight years. He had spent his long and useful life in the neighborhood in which he died and will be greatly missed by all. Earlier in his life he was interested in politics and served the town very acceptably for a number of years as overseer of the poor, also as town assessor. He was a member of the Daysville Grange, also of Butler Post at Pulaski, being a veteran of the Civil War. He is survived by a son, Grant Calkins, and two grandchildren, Guy Salisbury and Flora Mae Calkins, to whom the sympathy of all is extended. The following resolutions were drafted by a committee from the Grange: Whereas, death has again invaded our order and taken from the Grange our dear brother, John Calkins, therefore, be it resolved, that we, as representatives of Daysville Grange No. 225 do hereby extend to his son and wife, and other sorrowing relatives, the sympathy which is in our hearts. Resolved, that our charter be draped in mourning for thirty days, and that a copy of these resolutions be sent to the Pulaski Democrat for publication. G. G. Tyler, L. W. Larmon, F. A. Smart, Committee.
