Newspaper Obituary - Thursday, February 6, 1964 Sandy Creek News - Sandy Creek, New York - Funeral Friday for Mrs. Turo, Ill Four Months - Mrs. Loretta S. Turo, 74, died at 1:45 p.m. Wednesday, February 5, 1964 in the Evergreens Nursing Home, Mannsville after an illness of four months due to cancer. Her funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Weston and Woodard's funeral home. The Rev. Robert Bird, pastor of First Methodist church, will conduct the service. Burial will be in Richland. Calling hours will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral parlor. She is survived by one son, Paul C. Turo of Sandy Creek; two grandchildren, Sharon L., 17 and George R., 15 of Sandy Creek; also one sister, Mrs. Laura Bowman, Syracuse. Born October 2, 1889 in the Town of Orwell, she was the daughter of Charles L. and Estella Mattison Smith. She spent her early life in Orwell, Altmar, Pulaski and for awhile lived in the Redfield and Osceola section. She attended country schools of Orwell and Altmar and about 1908 was graduated from the Pulaski Academy training class. She was married June 20, 1917 at Centerville to Frank R. Turo of Pulaski, and they lived in Richland and later in Sandy Creek. Mr. Turo died in 1949. Mrs. Turo was a member of the Sandy Creek Methodist church. Until her illness, she taught the Foster Pratt class of the church. Before her marriage, she taught in several district schools in Oswego County.
