- Newspaper Obituary - May 31, 1956 Sandy Creek News - Sandy Creek, New York - Mrs. Bertha White Dies In Hospital - Mrs. Bertha White, 78, widow of Alton G. White, died Saturday, May 26, 1956 at University Hospital, Syracuse, where she had been a patient for more than a week and had undergone major surgery. Mrs. White was born in Altmar on Feb. 6, 1878, the daughter of William and Julia Pommeraning Kandt. Her entire life was spent in that vicinity and she was a member of the Altmar Grange and Methodist church. She is survived by two daughters, Miss Violet White, Altmar, and Mrs. Ruth Allen, Pulaski; two sons, Clyde, Pulaski, and Allan White, Savannah, Georgia; a brother, Herman Kandt, Oswego and five grandchildren. The funeral was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Brown funeral home in Altmar, with the Rev. E. H. Hill, pastor of Altmar Methodist church, officiating. Burial was in Riverside cemetery.
