- Arthur (Max) Schaller, 69, a life-long resident of Stanwix, died Thursday morning in his home after an illness of six months. He was born November 27, 1891 in Rome, son of Thomas and Mary Carmen Schaller. Mr. Schaller first married Mrs. Leila Tanner, who died Feb. 12, 1946. On May 14, 1960 he married Mrs. Myrtle Smith in Cleveland. Plumber and steam fitter at Pettibone-Mulligan Corp., Mr. Schaller retired in 1956. Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Charles S. Mowers, Rome, and Mrs. Raymond Whittman, Stanwix, five sons, Maxwell A. Thomas F., and Melvin D., all of Rome, Kenneth L., in Wisconsin, and Warren C., Blossvale, step-children, Mrs. Howard Clinch, Vernon Center, Mrs. Joseph Gileece, Clark Mills, Mrs. John Sroka, Clarks Mills, Mrs. James Barnes, Rome, Stanley Smith, Bartlett, Virgil Smith, Boonville, Everett Smith, Utica, and Lyle Smith, Hecla, and 53 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
