- Melvin D. Schaller, 65, of 7070 Rome-Oriskany Road, retired electronic technician, died Sunday, Dec. 31, 1989, in Veteran's Administration Medical Center, Syracuse, after an illness of several months. He was admitted on Dec. 23. Mr. Schaller was an electronic technician for Sperry Univac, Utica, until retiring in 1976. Born in Rome, July 14, 1924, he was a son of Arthur and Leila Tanner Schaller. On Sept. 9, 1947, he married Marilyn M. Meyer in St. John's Lutheran Church. Mr. Schaller served with the Army Air Force in the 11th Airborne Division, and received a Purple Heart. Mr. Schaller was a member of the Ascension Lutheran Church, the Oriskany School Board, the Military Order of the Purple Heart, Ava Dorfman Senior Citizens, and the Disabled American Veterans. Surviving besides his wife are two daughters, Mrs. John (Dianne) Lieber, Point Rock, and Sheila Schaller, Rome, a son Wayne E. Schaller, Rome, two sisters, Mrs. Ray (Marguerite) Whitman, and Mrs. Charles (Emogene) Mowers, both of Rome, two brothers, Maxwell A. Schaller, Rome, and Warren C. Schaller, Westmoreland, and three grandchildren.
