Avis O. Branche, 95, formerly of Sandy Creek and West Monroe, died April 1 at James Square Nursing Home, Syracuse.
Mrs. Branche was a clerk at the Frank Chamberlain Store, Clement's Supermarket, Sandy Creek Silver Star, Seeley's Restaurant and River Valley Inn, all formerly of the Sandy Creek area.
Born in the town of Boylston, daughter of Myron and Olive James Ridgeway, she attended school in Boylston.
She married Maurice L. Branche on Jan. 5, 1939, in Brownville and the couple lived in Theresa, Beaver Falls and LaFargeville before moving to Sandy Creek in 1951. Mr. Branche was a barber for 45 years in Beaver Falls, Belleville and Sandy Creek, and the couple operated a grocery store when they lived in LaFargeville.
She was a former regent of Rhadamant Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, a former member of Sandy Creek Grange 127, Sandy Creek United Methodist Church and Sandy Creek-Orwell Area Senior Citizens and former president of the Wednesday Club.
Surviving besides her husband, of Central Square, are a daughter, Kay M. Hewitt, Liverpool; two sons, Calvin, Hudson, Fla., and Dan, West Monroe, five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
A son, Robert, died in 1996.
The funeral was April 4 at Watson Funeral Home, Central Square. Burial will be in Boylston Cemetery.
