- Newspaper Obituary - June 6, 1995 Watertown Daily Times - Watertown, New York - ALICE SAMSON DIES AT 84 - Alice B. Samson, 84, formerly of 8329 DeMott St., died Monday at Samaritan-Keep Home, Watertown, where she had been a resident since 1990. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Summerville Funeral Home, Sandy Creek, with the Rev. Lorraine Zimmerman, pastor of Sandy Creek United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Sandy Creek. Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Surviving are two daughters, Celestine Kerr, Sandy Creek, and Mrs. Clifford (Helen "Sue") Philips, Pulaski; a brother, Gilbert Byrnes, Watertown; five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, two nephews. A brother, Lawrence Byrnes, died before her. Born Feb. 12, 1911, in the town of Albion, daughter of Francis and Minnie Barber Byrnes, she graduated from Sandy Creek schools and was employed by Blount Lumber Co. for more than 25 years before retiring in 1976. She married Harold E. Samson on Jan. 31, 1931, in Lacona. The couple lived in the Boylston and Lacona areas all their married life. Mr. Samson, an author of books about the Tug Hill Plateau and a retired supervisor for the state Department of Transportation, died April 5, 1977. Mrs. Samson was a former Boylston town clerk. She was a member of Sandy Creek Grange 127, the Rebekah Lodge and Sandy Creek United Methodist Church.
