Newspaper Obituary - Wednesday, February 28, 1979 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - Edward J. Kundell, 60, 8606 Orwell Street, Richland, died Thursday, February 22, at Upstate Medical Center, Syracuse, after a long illness. Born September 25, 1918 in Cohoes, he was the son of Sylvester and Iva Rungee Kundell. He attended schools in Lacona, Cohoes, Syracuse and Liverpool, graduating from the latter. On November 11, 1939, he married Isabelle Caufield at St. John the Evangelist Church in Pulaski. He lived in Pulaski until moving to Richland ten years ago. He was a Sgt. First Class in the U.S. Marines, serving two years during World War II. He worked for Holcomb Steel, Syracuse, before entering the Marines. After his discharge, he worked for Sweets Paper Company and then the Post Office in Pulaski and Richland, retiring in 1978 after 30 years of service. He was also an electrician. He was a communicant of St. John the Evangelist Church, Pulaski, and also a member of its Holy Name Society. He was a member of Altmar Russell Tryon, American Legion Post 1435, the National Rural Letter Carriers Association, the Monteola Club, Jack McDonald Club, Inc., and a bowler with the Sunday Night Mixed League, subbing on other leagues. Surviving, are his wife Belle; two sons: Dr. Frederick Kundell of Salisbury; Maryland, and Dr. James Kundell of Athens, Georgia; two daughters: Mrs. Donald (Kathy) Shumway of Mexico and Jeanne, at home; his mother, Mrs. Iva Culp of Liverpool; seven grandchildren; and several aunts and cousins. Funeral Services were 9:30 a.m. Monday, February 26, at the Taylor-Vida Funeral Home, Pulaski, and 10 am. at St John the Evangelist Church where a Mass of Resurrection was celebrated with Rev. Thomas P. Whalen officiating. Spring burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Pulaski, with full military honors. Contributions may be made in his memory to the American Cancer Society.
