- James R Beattie (December 19, 1931 - February 14, 2014) Mr. James Beattie, 82, of Marine City, died February 14, 2014 in his home with family by his side. He was born December 19, 1931 in Saginaw to the late James & Alta (Garver) Beattie. James served his country honorably in the US Navy during the Korean War. He married Judy Lipa in July 1993 in Marine City. Mr. Beattie started his career with the Federal Government with H.U.D. in 1958. He continued with U.S. Customs Service and worked at the Marine City Ferry and then became a supervisor at the Blue Water Bridge. He retired in 1988 after thirty years of service. He enjoyed watching all types of sports but loved to play golf. He is survived by his wife, Judy; children, Deborah (Charles) Crabtree, Darlene (Jeffrey) Howard, Diane (Neil) Washburn, Jim (Kim) Beattie, Tim Miller, Tom (Karen) Miller, Terry Grace, Tina (Brian) Burns; fifteen grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; four brothers, Charles (Molly), David (Beverly), Robert (Janice) and Ralph (Terry) Beattie; a sister, Jean (Warren) Koch and many nieces and nephews.. A Funeral service will be held at 12:00 pm on Tuesday, February 18, 2014 in Bower-Rose Funeral Home, Marine City. Visitation will be held from 2-8 pm on Monday and from 11:00 am until the time of the service. Honors will be conducted under the auspices of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection and the St. Clair County Allied Veterans. Memorials may be directed to the Marine City Fire Department.
