Newspaper Obituary - (date unavailable) 1980 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - Mrs. Vesta L. Cates, 85, Route 3, died at her home, November 19, 1980, after a long illness. She was born May 19, 1895 in the Daysville area to Frank Smart and Stella Smart Hardie. She attended school there and in Pulaski. On October 9, 1917, she married the late George F. Cates in Daysville, living there all her married life. Mr. Cates passed away June 4, 1980. They farmed in Daysville until moving to Route #3 where they operated a gas station and diner, later becoming a trailer park. Mrs. Cates was a member of the Pulaski Grange for 62 years and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #159, Pulaski. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Clarence (Florence) Lifts; six grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. The funeral service was 11:00 a.m. November 22, 1980 at the Taylor Vida Funeral Home with Rev. Stanley E. Skinner officiating. Burial was in Daysville Cemetery, Daysville.
