      Newspaper Obituary - Thursday, September 14, 1944 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - J. D. Curtiss Dies in Richland - Jarvis D. Curtiss, 76, died at his home in Richland at 11 a. m. Wednesday. He had been in poor health for some time. He was born at Hinsdale, Massachusetts on September 25, 1868, son of Edwin and Sylvia. Millikan Curtiss. He came to Richland in 1849 where he formed a partnership with his brother, William P. Curtiss and as Curtiss Brothers they bought the Averill Lumber Company. He retired 12 years ago. Surviving are his wife, Nellie Grant Helmer; one daughter, Mrs. A. E. Vaunk; two brothers, Elmer of Hartford, Connecticut, and Elwin of Utica; one sister, Mrs. A . C. Richards of Bergen, and two grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Saturday, at the home at 1:30 and at the Christ church in Richland at 2 o'clock. Burial will be in Richland cemetery.
