Newspaper Obituary - Wednesday, September 5, 1900 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - Lamb District - James Hardie who died near Pulaski on August 8th, 1900, was born in Kingston August 24th, 1812 and was of Scotch descent. On December 25th, 1834 he was united in marriage with Miss Mary Sharp, of the same place. He owned a very successfully conducted large farm near Kingston until the fall of 1875, when he disposed of his property and with his family came to this town where he resided until his death, a period of nearly 36 years. Their union was blessed with ten children, all of whom are living, Henry, of Pulaski; Mrs. Eliza Davey, of this place; Thomas, of Canada West; Edgar, of Wellwood; A. Forrester, of Watertown; Russell, of Oregon; David, of Mexico; Mrs. Lizzie Heamans, of Pulaski; and William, of Daysville. Until four years ago he with his aged wife kept house alone. He was of a good sound mind and retained his business faculties to a remarkable extent. They have resided with their daughter, Mrs. Julia Heamans, where he died. Mr. Hardie was the head of four generations which nearly numbered three score. He was also a kind husband, an indulgent father and a neighbor willing to lend a helping hand at any time or place. Although not a church member he was a great Bible reader and during his last days said his peace was made with God and he was only waiting for his master to call him home, his only regret was in leaving his aged companion. Had he lived until December 25th, they would have celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary. The funeral was held from his late home conducted by the Rev. Mr. Marshall, of Fernwood. Interment at Daysville.
