- Charles James Briggs - July 11, 1853 - May 22, 1927. Son of Ira and Katherine Goodrich Briggs. Husband of Phoebe Clarinda Bradley Briggs (married November 23, 1879) & Laura Amelia Baker Briggs (married September, 1899.) [Note: Phoebe Bradley Briggs died December 6, 1898 in Pulaski, New York of typhoid fever, she is buried in Woodlawn Cemetery at Sandy Creek, New York.]
Newspaper Obituary - Thursday, May 26, 1927 Sandy Creek News - Sandy Creek, New York - Sunday afternoon, May 22, 1927, occurred the death of Charles J. Briggs, after an illness of several weeks. On Tuesday morning, May 17, he suffered a stroke of paralysis of the right side which rendered him speechless. He was born, July 11, 1853, the son of Ira and Katherine Goodrich Briggs. In the fall of 1879 he married Phoebe Bradley, daughter of Brazil and Abi Bradley, who died December 6, 1898. To this union were born four children, Mrs. Watie Frazier, Henderson Harbor; Mrs. Ella Thomas and Charlie Bert Briggs, of Henderson, R F. D. and Ira Briggs of Binghamton. In the year of 1899, he married Laura Baker and to this union were born three children, Benjamin and Clayton Briggs of Lacona and Alta Mae Briggs, who was killed by a train nine years ago. Besides his widow, two daughters and four sons, he is survived by one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Presley, also several grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the home on Hadley Street, in Sandy Creek at 2 o'clock on Tuesday afternoon. Burial at Richland.
