Newspaper Obituary - Wednesday, May 14, 1924 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - Mr. O. N. Sprague, a life long resident of Fernwood, passed away May 5, aged 77 years, at the home of his son, Herbert Sprague. Mr. Sprague was born in the town of Sandy Creek but for many years had lived in Fernwood and engaged in faulting until the past few years his health failed. He made his home with his son and family He enlisted in the 147th regiment New York Volunteers. He was a member of the J. B. Butler Post, G. A. R. and of South Richland Grange. In his quiet way he was a man of worth and will be missed. lie was a most king, loving father also an obliging neighbor. As the days passed and his suffering was great convincing him his stay was but short here, he tried to forget all worldly things, turning to those things which perish not, putting his trust in Him who saves to the utmost. Clinging to the old rugged cross and at last exchanging it for a crown. Surviving to miss father are the son, Herbert Sprague, and Mrs. Ellis Church, of Fernwood, Mrs. Delano Atkinson, Pulaski and Mrs. Alfred Bushnell of Richland; one sister of Lacona; two brothers of Canada; a sister of California. The grandsons acted as bearers. Beautiful flowers rested on his casket and friends and neighbors gathered to pay their last tribute of respect to him who had so long been friend and neighbor. For many years Mr. I. J. Rich and Mr. O. N. Sprague were delegated to place flags by the soldier's graves in the Willis cemetery, which contains many. Burial in Willis cemetery. Services were concluded by the members of the Grand Army.
