Notes - FATAL ACCIDENT.--WHITMAN GOIT, of Galen, In., met with a dreadful accident, while felling timber in the woods, near his house, on the 3d inst. He was engaged in getting out timber for rail road ties. Cutting down a tree, in falling, the top became tangled with others, which caused the butt to slide back, catching and crushing his leg. He was there held for some time before he was found, and had become chilled and exhausted. Surgical assistance was procured, and two doses of morphine administered from the effects of which he did not recover, but died on the morning of the 7th.
He was formerly a resident of this place, and removed from Pulaski in 1843, he was a brother of David Goit, of Mexico. He was 46 years of age, and has left a wife and ten children. He was the first settler of the section of country where he died, and friends had one by one gathered around him from this county and other sections, by whom he was highly esteemed, and who wore accustomed to look to him for counsel. His loss will therefore be the more seriously felt.
