- Newspaper Obituary - August 21, 1993 Syracuse Herald Journal - Syracuse, New York - John R. Wilder, 68, of 119 Garland Road, Fairmount, died Friday in Oswego Hospital after becoming ill at his summer home on Seber Shores Drive, Sandy Pond. He was a native of Sandy Creek and a resident of Fairmount for the past 40 years. He retired in 1988 as the right-of- way supervisor with Niagara Mohawk Power Corp. after 24 years of service. A 1943 graduate of Pulaski High School, Mr. Wilder served with the U.S. Naval Air Corps and the U.S. Army during World War II. He attended Colgate University, and graduated from the New York State Police Academy. He served with the State Police from 1948 to 1953. He was employed with the General Accident Insurance Company and the Jamestown Mutual Insurance Company before joining Niagara Mohawk in 1964. He was a member of the Derrick Hunting Club, the Association of Former New York State Troopers and the Fairmount Community Church. Surviving are his wife, the former Wilburetta "Micki" McDonald; two daughters, Susan Wilder of Fairmount and Carol Garnsey of Baldwinsville; a brother, William W. of Syracuse; a sister, Nancy Warren of Sumter South Carolina; and two grandchildren. Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at the Fairmount Community Church, 3801 West Genesee Street, the Rev. P.V. George officiating. Burial will be private. Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the B.L. Bush & Sons Funeral Home, 10 Genesee Street, Camillus. Contributions may be made to Central New York Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, or to the Fairmount Community Church memorial fund.
