      Afra Mattraw

      Afra Mattraw 87 of Greeneville Tenn. died Saturday Oct. 12 2002 at the Johnson City Medical Center after a brief illness.

      Mrs. Mattraw was a native of Orwell N.Y. and had been a longtime resident of Ojai before moving to Greenville Tenn. in 2001. She was the daughter of the late George S. and Alice Hilton Petrie. Mrs. Mattraw was a former elementary schoolteacher and a homemaker. She received her degree in education from Courtland State Teachers College Cortland N.Y.

      Mrs. Mattraw was a member of the Ojai Women's Club and the Daughters of the American Revolution and was a life master bridge player. She was Episcopalian.

      Mrs. Mattraw was preceded in death by her husband Harold C. Mattraw in 1984; son William Petrie Mattraw; and brothers Harry Petrie and Lafay Petrie.

      She is survived by her sons Harold C. Mattraw Jr. and his wife Doris of Greeneville Tenn. and Frank L. Mattraw and his wife Janet of Westlake Village; daughter Alice Faye Mattraw Sachs and her husband Jackie of Menlo Park; grandchildren Renee Furman of Boone N.C. Bryan Mattraw of Leesburg Va. and Matthew Sachs of Menlo Park Calif.; and great-grandchildren Carly Lundquist and Lily Furman both of Boone N.C.

      A reception for Afra's friends will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday Nov. 16 at Carrows Restaurant Ojai.
