Newspaper Obituary - January 25, 1992 Watertown Daily Times - Watertown, New York - ZILPHIA BALCOM, PULASKI, DIES AT AGE OF 89 - Zilphia M. Balcom, 89, Springbrook Apartments, died Friday morning at her home. Services are 10 a.m. Monday at the Foster-Hax Funeral Home with the Rev. Richard Clay, rector of St. James Episcopal Church, officiating. BuriOal will be in South Richland Cemetery, Fernwood. Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Contributions may be made to St. James Episcopal Church or the American Heart Association. Mrs. Balcom is survived by two stepsons, Arthur R. Balcom, Greenlawn, L.I., and Elvin R. Balcom, Swanzey, N.H.; two nieces, Diane McNett Bullo of Waterport and Beverly McNett Watson, Richland; 17 step-grandchildren and several great-step-granchildren. She was born Dec. 8, 1902 in Fernwood, daughter of Fred and Lydia Smiley McNett. She graduated from Pulaski High School and Oswego State Normal School. A life-resident of the Pulaski-Fernwood area, Mrs. Balcom taught in the Pulaski Central School District for many years. She married Robert E. Balcom Dec. 25, 1932. Mr. Balcom died Nov. 3, 1973. Mrs. Balcom was a communicant of St. James Episcopal Church. She was a member OES Chapter No. 159, the Pulaski Grange and the Pulaski Civic Club.
