Newspaper Obituary - October 7, 2008 Times Union Albany, New York - Matacchiero, Annie L. - LATHAM Annie L. (Brown) Matacchiero, 87, of Carondelet Dr. and formerly of Albany died Sunday, October 5, 2008 at Albany Memorial Hospital surrounded by her family. Born in Pulaski, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Matthew McArthur Brown and Myrtle Stewart Brown. Annie was a 1939 graduate of Pulaski Academy, where she played girls softball and was a member of the Glee Club and the school band. Moving to Albany in 1940, she worked in the mail order department at Montgomery Wards in Menands in her early years. She enjoyed visiting Florida every May, supporting her NY Yankees, and belonged to several area bowling leagues. Also known for her knitting and sewing, Annie made mittens and hats for the homeless and for special-needs children. She will be remembered as a peacemaker and jovial person who was everyone's mother and grandmother. Annie was the wife of the late Michael Matacchiero, Sr. She is the mother of Roseann Arthur (Donald) of Waterford, Robert Matacchiero (Diane) of Clearwater, Fla., Karen Grouten (Leo) of Avon, Conn., Nancy O'Keefe (Kevin) of Latham, and the late Michael Matacchiero Jr. She is the sister of Robert Brown of Sackets Harbor, N.Y. and the late Raymond Brown, Marion Greene, Archibald Brown, Evelyn Janet Brown, Lois Mae Tanner, and Matthew M. Brown Jr. She is also survived by her special friend, Horace Brimhall, 14 grandchildren, 22 great-grand-children, and nine great-great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Philip J. Brendese Funeral Home, 133 Broad St. (Rte. 32), Waterford with Rev. Paul Barna officiating. Interment will be in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery, Colonie. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital in care of the funeral home office.
