      Herbert J. Wheeler, 65, Mannheim, Germany, formerly of Williamstown, died July 29 at Landstuhl Military Hospital in Germany. He had been ill with cancer.

      Mr. Wheeler retired from the Army after 24 years of service. He was employed by the Department of Defense, residing in Germany when not serving in war zones.

      Born July 10, 1941, in Williamstown, a son of Kenneth and Mildred Wheeler, he attended Parish schools.

      He was a member of Hastings-Gorski Post 1128, American Legion.

      Surviving besides his wife, Gisela, Germany, and his mother, of Williamstown, are three sons and a daughter-in-law, Klaus, Germany, Herbert J. and Bianca, and Fredy, all of Virginia; two brothers and their wives, Kenneth and Beverly Wheeler, Altmar, and William and Pat Wheeler, Sodus; three sisters and their husbands, Josephine and James VanWinkle, Janice and Robert Oakes and Peggy and Robert Kennedy, all of Williamstown, and seven grandchildren.

      Three sisters died before him.

      The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Pulaski Wesleyan Church with the Rev. Timothy Hurne officiating.

      Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Orwell.
